You Can’t Out Eat, or Workout a Bad Sleep Routine

My top 7 Sleep routine habits
By Gennifer Strobo, CNC & Staff Nutritionist for Devotion Nutrition
I’m a nutritionist and I’ll be the first to tell you sleep is just as important as what you eat. I’ve watched clients dial in their nutrition and still feel terrible. Sleep and stress were always the missing piece. You cannot out eat bad sleep. It just doesn’t work that way.
The National Sleep Foundation backs this . Diets high in sugar and low in fiber reduce the dee type of sleep your body needs. Heavy meals too close to bedtime make it worse. What you eat and how you sleep are more connected than most people realize. Also creating a good “wind down” routine nightly to signal your body it’s time to rest.
Simple habits that actually help
1. No screens before bed. Give yourself at least 30-60 minutes. Screens can block the natural melatonin increase and keep your brain wide awake.
2. Bed is for sleep only. Stop working, eating, or scrolling in bed. Your brain needs to connect the bed with rest.
3. Same schedule every day. Bedtime and waking up at the same time, yes even try this on weekends. Try to stay within an hour on your days off. Consistency is everything.
4. Watch caffeine intake. This can truly mess with your sleep more than you think even when it doesn’t feel like it. Stop all caffeine intake by 3pm at the latest.
5. Wind down on purpose. A warm shower, some stretching, calm music. Something that tells your body it’s time for bed.
6. Write down what’s on your mind. Get it out of your head before you try to sleep. It’ll still be there tomorrow.
7. Cool, dark, quiet room. Your environment matters. Make it work for you.
The Four “Legs to Your Table”
Think of your health like a table with four legs. All four must be solid or the whole thing can fall apart.
• Nutrition: Enough from all food groups. Balanced portions. Not restriction. Balance.
• Movement: Not the gym. Just moving through your day. Housework, walking, getting up regularly.
• Sleep: What this whole post is about. Non-negotiable.
• Stress: Chronic stress breaks everything down over time. Managing it is part of taking care of yourself.
Get these right and everything falls into place.
Two things most people are deficient in

Magnesium
Most people are low in magnesium and don’t know it. It calms your nervous system, supports melatonin, and helps your body actually wind down. Taking it at night with dinner helps with sleep, muscle tension, stress, recovery, heart health, and blood sugar. It does a lot. Devotion Nutrition’s Magnesium Complex Capsules are formulated to support exactly this. Relaxation, muscle function, and a better night’s rest.
Omega-3s
Your body can’t make omega-3s on its own and most people aren’t getting enough. And most importantly the right kind. They’re linked to better sleep quality, less inflammation, improved mood, brain function, heart health, joint health, and even your skin. Take them at night alongside your magnesium with dinner. Devotion Nutrition’s Omega-3 Fish Oil Softgels deliver 720mg of EPA and DHA per serving, third-party tested and easy to digest. The right kind, in the right amount.
Bottom line
Sleep is not a luxury. It’s part of the foundation. Start with one habit, add your nutrients, and give your body what it needs to recover. You’ll feel the difference.
